- One of the highlights of the week was the colloquium and the screening of an audiovisual about Mossèn Josep Antoni Comes, founder of the Saó magazine.
The Association of Pensioners and Retired People of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell celebrated yesterday the traditional fellowship meal at Salones Canor as the culmination of a packed Elderly People’s Week. As usual, the Mayor, Miguel Ángel García, and the Councillor of the Elderly People, Isa Garrido, accompanied them in this important annual event.
In the speeches, the president of the association, Mónica García, thanked the entire board of the association, the mayor and the councillor of the Elderly People, and all the municipal technicians for making this week and the fellowship meal possible, which manages to bring together about 150 pensioners and retired people of the municipality. He also thanked the sub-lieutenant of the Civil Guard in Xàbia and the priests Don Guillermo Gilabert and Don José Santamaría, as well as the representatives of the pensioners’ associations of Xàbia, Teulada, Benissa and Gata.
On behalf of the councillor for the Elderly People, Isa Garrido, congratulated the association for the excellent organisation of the Elderly People’s Week and emphasised the importance of giving the elderly the place they deserve in the town’s society. The mayor, Miguel Ángel García, also highlighted the ‘fantastic work’ of the senior citizens’ association, which is one of the important motors of cohesion in the municipality, helping to “make the town”. She also encouraged people to join and get involved in the board of directors to help them in their great work of organising all the events. Finally, she expressed her admiration for the association and offered them the help and support of the government team. ‘We are here for whatever you need’.
During the celebration, Mónica García, the mayor and the councillor presented a bouquet of flowers to the eldest member, who on this occasion was Concha Gilabert, who is 87 years old. They also handed out a keyring with the logo of the pensioners’ association as a gift to all those attending.
An intense week of events
The Association of Pensioners and Retired People has had an intense week of activities. It began last Monday October 14th with a performance by the singer Rosa Domínguez. Then on Tuesday there was a snack and a bingo afternoon. Wednesday there was a colloquium and the projection of an audiovisual about Mossèn Josep Antoni Comes, founder of the magazine Saó. Thursday the elderly people enjoyed an afternoon of ball with Juan Carlos Vallés and, in the evening, the performance of the Rondalla Crevillentina. Friday they had an aperitif and a ball with Toni Català. And at the weekend, the theatre play ‘Madre, me quiero casar’, by Siete comediantes, was performed.
