Old butcher’s shop and the old inn, the university of Benitatxell was born with an economical degree of autonomy higher than usual, since an important number of its neighbors were alod owners and therefore the marquis would not receive any payment from them as an in fientic census, the main source for the most of the Valencian lordships of the time.

As if these were not enough, the marquis granted to the new university in 1698 the royalties from the oven, the butcher shop and the inn, so they could rent them out and they obtain income and benefits for the town.

In the butcher’s shop, that would be located at the current number 17, all kinds of foodstuffs were sold, being the most important one the salting. Famous writers as Cavanieas describe the inn as peculiara. This house is located in number 19 nowadays. The inn was not a very profitable business, because only a few foreign people visited el Poble Nou de Benitatxell at that time.
