Watchmen, as we all know, the Marina coast has historically been a place where the presence of pirates and smugglers were usual, especially along the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries, so the Mediterranean Sea was in permanent danger. This is why the coast supervision and the coast control were so important. This supervision and control were carried out by the watchmen, who were in charge of warning about the possible dangers they could see.

These men, when they detected danger, lighted fires to alert the nearby supervision points, and then the message was sent to the nearest population centers. At that time, the coast between the Granadella and Javéig coves did not have any watchtowers, and, just in case, they were very far away from the population centers. The protection of the area increased with the construction of some watchtowers in this area, such as Cap de Or at the end of the 19th century, or El Castell de la Granadella in 1739, built over a previous tower dated in the 15th century.
