The library, the current municipal library, which today gives life and decorates Alicante Avenue, began working as a library in 2000, on the second floor of the current Town Hall. Later, in 2002, it was opened as we know it nowadays. Years ago, it was the former Carabineros, coast guard station. This police force was created in 1829 with the aim of finishing with smuggling in the area.

At the beginning, there was a first-class coast guard and four second-class coast guards in El Poble Nou de Benitatxell. The station was managed by the military Guillermo Esteban Espinero, on whom the stations in Moreira and La Granadella also depended on. The forces depending on Estebanes stayed beside the Republic and at the end of the Civil War, they were thrown out.

Later, the building where the library is now located became the Civil Guard station at El Poble Nou de Benitatxell. The station was working until the beginning of democracy, when it was moved and centralized in Javia. It was the office which controlled smuggling around the town, and it was not surprising to see the police officers patrolling at night. Nowadays, the municipal library is a social center where cultural events happen, and where people from town can participate.
