New Old Market. We find the new municipal market very close to the Town Hall, place where we finish the urban route El Poble Nou de Benitatxell. We can still see the ruins of the defensive wall that, in the past, the houses formed at the back, just behind us.

The history of the municipal market, built on where the old Town Hall was located, began in 1956, thanks to a grant of 24,500 pesetas from the Provincial Council. In 1959, the facilities were extended with the construction of a slaughterhouse just outside the town, which permitted to improve the quality and freshness of the products offered in the market.

As a curiosity, the slaughter of the pig became, as in most of the villages of the area, a social event which all of the pobleros participated in with the arrival of winter. The town market coexists with the traditional Wednesday market, which is set up in Market Street. These markets, together with the local businesses, favor the economy and help to start up a business, increasing personal treatment and standing out the high quality of their products.
