Pedro Pedro García and the arrival of electricity to Benitachell Electricity arrived in El Poble Nou de Benitachell in 1909 thanks to Pedro Pedro García, known as Pere La Llum. Pere also set up the communist radio station in charge of Communist Party organization.
The first lighting system installed consisted on a network of light bulbs along the main streets in the town and separated by more than a hundred meters from each other. Whenever the cinema was on, the voltage power dropped too much in the neighboring houses that even made it difficult to read.
The light was switched on manually at 6 o’clock in the morning by Pedro Pedro, the responsible of doing so, or his own son, Elías Pedro. The light was switched off at 12 o’clock at night, so from midnight to 6 a.m. there was no light. Half a century later, another historical event happened at El Poble Nou de Benitachell: the telephone was set. The telephone exchange office was located in the old Bolfón street. This was the house where Pere La Llum’s son lived for many years and he worked out as the one responsible of lighting in Benitachell.
