Portalet, first population nucleus, the Portalet is the name given to the gate, which leads to the church square. This gate was one of the entrances to the walled town, on which the first villa was built.

It was constituted at a university on January 4, 1698, after the concession of the population charter, by Luis Francisco de la Cerda y Aragón, Marquis of Denia, and Count of Medinaceli. It was midday when a small group of riding horsemen, led by Pere Domènech, doctor of law and attorney general, entered the square, and, in front of the church, in the main houses where the population lived and concentrated on, ordered two neighbors to gather all of the inhabitants of La Quería de Abiar, en Benitatxell, in order to read all of the privileges of Marquis, which he created the university, in the village of Benitatxell.
